Welcome

Dear Lovers of Dance,

On the cusp of our new season, I am left to ponder a word…One word to describe ballet that crosses the borders of our minds, our province, our country and our souls. After much reflection, I can think of no better word to describe this company than fiercely "Alive".

We are alive in mind. This season, the inspirational works of some of ballet's greatest creators and artists grace our stages. Our own Edmund Stripe, an award-winning choreographer who has created numerous works internationally. Joni Mitchell, singer, songwriter, artist, activist, national treasure. Jorden Morris, choreographer of RWB's Peter Pan, who was named one of the Top 25 to watch by Dance Magazine.

Christopher Wheeldon, who, in his short career, has already been compared to such greats as Ashton and Balanchine, and finally Ballet British Columbia's John Alleyne. We are alive in body. Our spiritual Olympians are prepared to take on a new season of physical challenges that push the limits of endurance. They are a constant source of inspiration to me and to our audiences worldwide, from New York City to Shanghai, across Canada, and in Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre.

We are alive in spirit. Our season line-up takes us into the soul-stirring realms of the fantastical, from Neverland to Wonderland, and perhaps into the most mysterious place of all, the landscape of the human mind. Our spirit is buoyed by the season past, which saw us break subscription records, and be nominated for the most prestigious choreographic award in Europe.

This company is your success story: more than ever before, Alberta Ballet is ALIVE, and we have you to thank.

Thank you!
