Built for entertaining, the spectacular gourmet-designed kitchen is a focal point of this home, along with a cork-floored games room, complete with bar and wine cellar.
You have to see the city view, the entertainment spaces in the home and the gourmet-designed kitchen.
Local LEGEND: Located in the heart of Calgary’s Mount Royal community, the Coste House celebrates its place in the city’s history as it approaches its 100th birthday in 2012. A grand first impression leads to elegantly-designed rooms that include pieces that reflect the owners’ extensive world travels. The main floor is complete with rooms for entertaining on a grand scale, while the two upper floors feature bedrooms and private spaces. This 28-room home reflects the European sensibility and style of its owners, who since 1978 have made the Coste House a welcoming and inviting home.

All In the FAMILY: Located in Calgary’s Altadore community, this newly built inner-city home makes the very most of smart space design. Built as a family home, it is complete with creative storage solutions, combined with décor details that include exotic Jotoba wood floors, coffered ceilings and custom wall moulding. With three levels of living space, the basement is designed for entertaining and includes a custom-designed wine cellar. The outdoor space expands the size of this home with an outdoor kitchen and three-hole putting green. The top floor of the home is dedicated to private spaces – bedrooms and bathrooms complete with innovative space solutions, a marble-clad bathroom and two-way fireplace. Personal TOUCH: This renovated 1950’s bungalow in Marda Loop is a 1,400 square-foot character home that doubles as a work and living space for its owner – a former art gallery owner and current garden designer. Whimsical features that demonstrate the owner’s love of art and crafts complement the home’s modern furnishings. Windows bathe the interior of the home in natural light. An important part of the home is the garden, which is personally designed by the home owner and creates additional inspiring living spaces. You have to see the creative mix of natural elements with modern fixtures and finishes, the presentation of the owner’s extensive art collection, and the innovative design and use of garden space.
Stairway to HEAVEN: This Aspen Estates townhouse exists on many levels of luxurious design. Linked by a central staircase as well as an elevator, this bachelor’s home is a corner unit that backs onto an open park to the north and an aspen grove to the west. The open use of space creates rooms with a spaciousness that also enhances the opportunity to enjoy the exterior views of this home’s location. From a gourmet kitchen on the main level, to a library and bar on the top floor – with mountain views – this beautifully designed and decorated home celebrates having nature as your neighbor.
You have to see the creative use of colour, light and space in design and décor and the views of nature that invite the outside in.
Vision of COMFORT: This 6,000 square-foot custom-built Rocky Point Home is located in the southwest community of Post Hill. The stunning exterior, inspired by modern architect Frank Lloyd Wright, is matched by the elegant comfort of its interior design - created in collaboration with designer Monica Stevens. With a modern yet rustic design, this home is built for family comfort. The main floor is the primary living space with double-height ceilings with Northern B.C. fir beams and a limestone fireplace in the living room, to industrial elements like the steel hood fan in the kitchen and copper ceiling panels in the dining room. The entire upper floor is devoted to bedrooms, bathrooms and a common workspace. You have to see the spectacular architectural design of this home, the “world of play underfoot” of the basement level, and the use of natural materials and rustic charm combined with the high tech features of this new home.

The home’s open-concept design ensures most of the rooms are oriented to Blackmud Creek which runs through the property. The palate of purples and greens are clearly defined in the living room which features a large fireplace and abstract artwork reminiscent of a mystical forest.
Craftsman ECO: Craftsman architecture, popular in the early 1900s, has been reincarnated in this brand new 2,400 square-foot beautiful Belgravia home. The home has low gable roof, front veranda with broad overhang and tapered pedestal columns. As well it incorporates historic looking earth-tone colours and natural materials such as cedar-shingle cladding outside, and fir trim, birch flooring and oak cabinets inside. This home reflects the beautiful Arts and Crafts movement and mission styles throughout and is loaded with eco-technologies including airlock entries, twelve-inch insulated cement walls, geo-thermal heating, efficient windows and the infrastructure to add solar paneling.
Beautifully Accessible: This custom-built home won the mayor’s 2009 award for Universal Design in Architecture. The owners planned their three-level home on Millcreek Ravine to be accessible, safe and convenient, both for current living arrangements and for the future. The Universal Design elements include: level entry from the garage and front door, wider doorways and halls to accommodate a wheel chair or walker, an elevator that goes to all floors, levered door handles, flat panel light switches with variable lighting levels, heated flooring and bathrooms. A blending of the old with the new, this two-bedroom home offers modern design with family heritage furnishings, several dating back to 18th century England: large Victorian and Georgian sideboard and buffet in the dining room to the sewing box in the living room to the 1892 wood cabinet in the powder room (hand-carved by the owner’s great-grandmother), these heirloom pieces are both functional and of historical interest.
Classic Modern: On a 25-foot wide lot, this North Glenora two-storey home successfully maximizes the use of narrow spaces by incorporating streamlined architectural elements and taking advantage of outdoor living space. Its simplicity starts in the front garden with the crisp geometric shapes that encourage visitors to enjoy a few tranquil moments before entering the classic modernist home.
In the living room, black leather Barcelona chairs, contemporary couches and a wall of sleek dark cabinets with an embedded fireplace provide a timeless look. A neutral palette of greys, black and white provides soothing ambience.
