School of Alberta Ballet Year End Performance Will Light up Jubilee Auditorium
Alberta's next ballet stars will showcase their talent in June at the School of Alberta Ballet's 18th Annual Year End Performance.
Throughout the year, the School of Alberta Ballet's students train with up to 4 hours of classes a day, 6 days a week in preparation for their professional careers. The Year End Performance gives students from all divisions a unique opportunity to perform onstage at Alberta's premier performance venue, the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. The levels of care and precision required in a professional dance performance are identical to those found at an Alberta Ballet show; including the choreography, costumes, lighting and design.
Over 250 students from ages 6 to 20 will perform excerpts from La Boutique Fantasque and Le Corsaire, as well as modern works, including original choreography from Alberta Ballet's own Yukichi Hattori. Students taught at the School of Alberta Ballet fall under the artistic direction of Murray Kilgour, former teacher at both the Royal Ballet School and the Central School of Ballet in London-as well as his wife, Nancy Kilgour-who taught such dancers as Karen Kain, Veronica Tennant, Darcey Bussel, Alessandra Ferri and Viviana Durante.
"These young dancers amaze me with the results of their efforts over the past year, truly reaching a professional level in so many styles of dance," says Murray Kilgour. "It will be a joy to see them dance on the Jubilee Auditorium stage."
The School of Alberta Ballet's Year End Performance takes place June 5th and 6th at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium at 7:30 pm. Tickets start at $20 and are available from Ticketmaster at ticketmaster.ca or 403.299.8888.
