Alberta Ballet to Debut Groundbreaking Ballet to the Music of Sir Elton John

Calgary/Edmonton, AB - Alberta Ballet is proud to announce a new ballet creation to the music of the legendary Sir Elton John. Along with Artistic Director Jean Grand-Maître and a world-class design team, ELTON will offer our audiences a contemporary creation that will make history.

After having seen Grand-Maître's groundbreaking collaboration with Joni Mitchell for 2007's Joni Mitchell's The Fiddle and The Drum, John was intrigued by the Alberta Ballet and Grand-Maître's staging. The result is a unique partnership that will redefine ballet and engage and entertain our audiences as only the music of Sir Elton John can.

Shaped by the extravagant character of a figure whose sheer force of will influenced the world of music and inspired compassion in millions, this contemporary semi-abstract ballet, set to the music of Sir Elton John, offers audiences an electrifying portrayal of the challenges and triumphs which created the outspoken and spiritually enriched musical icon of today. This unadorned portrayal journeys into the psyche of one the most acclaimed artists of the past century and the landscapes that shaped his destiny.
