School of Alberta Ballet Student to Compete in Youth America Grand Prix 2009 Finals
Calgary/Edmonton, AB - Sixteen-year-old Shion Yuasa, an Advanced Level student at the School of Alberta Ballet, has passed through to the Youth America Grand Prix finals. The Youth America Grand Prix is the largest student ballet scholarship competition, awarding over $250,000 in scholarships each year to leading dance schools around the world. Shion competed in the regional semi-finals in San Francisco from February 27 to March 1, and placed in the Top 10 in the Classical Ballet - Women category.
Shion will travel to New York City for the finals, April 17 - 20.
Shion who showed a strong presentation with a pure style, strong technique and lovely movement and musicality was also offered a place at the Washington Ballet School Summer Intensive.
