School of Alberta Ballet's Shion Yuasa to Represent Alberta in Youth America Grand Prix

Calgary/Edmonton, AB - For the first time, the School of Alberta Ballet will be sending a student to compete in the Youth America Grand Prix. It is the largest student ballet scholarship competition, awarding over $250,000 in scholarships each year to leading dance schools around the world. Fifteen-year-old Shion Yuasa, an Advanced Level student at the School of Alberta Ballet, will compete in the regional semi-finals in San Francisco from February 27 to March 1.

Accompanying Shion will be the School of Alberta Ballet's Principal, Murray Kilgour.

"Shion is an extremely talented student who loves every moment of dancing," says Kilgour. "Her movement is so beautiful and coordinated that her dancing seems completely natural. Such a natural aptitude for classical ballet technique comes rarely and we are very pleased to have this opportunity for Shion to be seen on a larger, international stage."

If successful, Shion will travel to New York City for the finals in April.
