2011 - 2012 Season

Welcome to our 2011/12 season, as we go beyond words for our 45th year. Whether you join us for beloved classics, cutting edge works, or celebrated theatrical ballet, this anniversary season is a veritable feast of sensuous experiences. It’s also a commemorative year for the School of Alberta Ballet, now entering its 20th year of world-class training for young dancers.

We proudly welcome two of Canada’s leading ballet companies to our celebration. The exhilarating National Ballet of Canada will perform four riveting 20th century classics in a specially programmed 60th anniversary season of extraordinary works this September. In October, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet will also bring their acclaimed re-interpretation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Heading into the holiday season, we welcome the magnificent encore of our critically acclaimed production of Prokofiev’s Cinderella, along with our enduring production of The Nutcracker, which sold out from Ottawa to Vancouver last year and earned some of the best reviews in our company’s history. These family-friendly shows are sure to delight and inspire.

In the spring, Alberta Ballet’s superb dancers will debut our much-anticipated world premiere of Kirk Peterson’s Swan Lake, easily the most famous ballet in the history of the craft.

Our epic season concludes with an encore performance of our company’s biggest hit ever, Love Lies Bleeding, inspired by and featuring the music of Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin. This production will almost certainly sell out and is not to be missed.

We invite you to join us as the world’s finest dancers bring the great ballets of the 19th, 20th and 21st century to life. Rediscover music’s greatest composers as Chopin, Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev are set in motion by ballet’s most esteemed choreographers and given breath by our partners at the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

Surrender to beauty as we take you beyond words.
