School Policies

Regular and Professional Division

Tuition

The School of Alberta Ballet allows tuition to be paid in installments for Regular and Professional Divisions only.  Tuition for the Regular Division can be paid in 10-month installments—effective from the date of registration—providing registration occurs prior to September 27, 2008.  Students registering after this date can still pay in installments, but the number of payments will be reduced to coincide with the number of months remaining in the School year.

The School of Alberta Ballet reserves the right to withdraw the installment plan at its sole discretion.  Circumstances that could result in this action include, but are not limited to, cheques being returned NSF, pre-authorized credit card payments being declined, and late payments.  If so notified by School of Alberta Ballet, the entire balance owing becomes immediately payable.

Registration fee and in-lieu of fundraising fee is required at time of registration.  Registrations are not accepted without these amounts.  Cancellation of registration must be done in writing and received by the School of Alberta Ballet one week prior to the first day of the semester.  Refunds are not given once a semester begins (see Withdrawal below).  A $30.00 fee will be charged for all cheques returned or credit card payments refused.  A $25.00 late payment fee may be charged for all payments not made according to the accepted payment plan above.

Tuition arrears from previous years or terms are payable before registration is permitted for the following year or before student can continue in the 2nd term.

Please note that acceptance into the Professional Division is by audition only.

BA Students

Tuition

Tuition for the 1st term is due in full upon registration for the 1st term.  Tuition for the 2nd term is due upon registration for the 2nd term.

Adult Classes

Tuition

Full payment of tuition and registration fee is required at time of registration.  A late penalty of $50 will be applied to those registering after the registration deadline.  Cancellation of registration must be done in writing and received by the School of Alberta Ballet one week prior to the first day of the semester.  Refunds are not given once a semester begins.  A $30.00 fee will be charged for all cheques returned or credit card payments refused.

Registration

Please be aware that the class time you have registered for is the ONLY class you are permitted to attend.  Drop-in classes are not permitted.  Change of class times can only be approved by the registrar.  You may register for more than one class per week providing there is still space available at the time of registration.

All Students

Special Circumstances

We understand that unique situations can sometimes affect a student's ability to fit the financial or scheduling criteria of their program.  In cases as these, students may appeal to the School for special accommodation.

Withdrawal

Withdrawals are permitted under two circumstances only: 1) Due to medical reasons and with a doctor's note; 2) In writing at the end of the 1st term and before one week of the beginning of the 2nd term.  Registration fee and in-lieu of fundraising fee are non-refundable.  Tuition amount refunds for medical withdrawals are calculated according to the number of full months remaining in the term from the date the doctor's note is received by the School.  All unpaid tuition until that point is still owing.  Tuition amounts for term-end withdrawals are not charged for Term 2.  All unpaid tuition from Term 1 is still owing.

The School's Withdrawal Policy is set because class sizes are necessarily limited.  If a student registers for a class, they reserve that spot preventing someone else from registering.  Withdrawals partway through the term do not allow others to sign up for that class until the end of the term.

Dismissal

The School of Alberta Ballet reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to refuse admission to any student and to dismiss any student from the School or the program because of the student's behavior or the behavior of his/her parent or guardian.

Medical Attention

If the student should require medical attention of any sort while in attendance at or during travel to, from, or in connection with the School of Alberta Ballet or a School of Alberta Ballet event or performance, the School's staff is hereby empowered to: administer first aid, have the student transported to a doctor or hospital, have the student examined and treated by a doctor, and take whatever action the School of Alberta Ballet may deem necessary to protect the student's health and welfare.  I/We agree to pay for any such medical procedures or treatment, and agree to release, hold harmless and indemnify the School of Alberta Ballet as outlined in this agreement.

Waiver

By registering with the School of Alberta Ballet, you are agreeing to adhere to all above policies as well as to release and waive, and further agree to indemnify, hold harmless or reimburse the School of Alberta Ballet and Alberta Ballet Company and any and all related companies, subsidiaries, affiliates and associated corporations and their individual members, employees, consultants, volunteers, insurers, agents and representatives, including faculty members, from and against all claims (including defence legal fees) which you, any other parent or guardian, any sibling, the student, or any other person, firm or corporation, may have or claim to have, known or unknown, directly or indirectly for any losses, damages or injuries to the student or the parent/guardian, or to any person or property, during the time of the student's attendance or the physical attendance of the parent/guardian at School of Alberta Ballet, during travel to or from the School of Alberta Ballet or any School of Alberta Ballet event or performance, and during any activity which may occur off of the School of Alberta Ballet's property, whether or not such losses, damages or injuries were sustained in connection with the School or its activities and/or arising out of or in connection with the rendering of emergency medical procedures or treatment by the School of Alberta Ballet staff, as authorized in this agreement.

You understand and accept that in order to properly teach and correct dance movement and technique, physical contact between the student and the instructor is necessary.  Such contact, as is considered necessary by the instructor, is consented to by the student and/or the parent/guardian.  The School of Alberta Ballet undertakes to ensure that such contact is applied in a professional manner and as is required for dance instruction and correction.

You consent to the taking and use of photographs or videos of yourself or your child by the School of Alberta Ballet and Alberta Ballet Company for use in promoting the School of Alberta Ballet its programs, activities or events or Alberta Ballet Company, including in School publications, newsletters and web pages on the Internet, calendars, occasional news releases or other promotional uses.  You understand and agree that the School of Alberta Ballet and/or Alberta Ballet Company, as applicable, does not need to notify you or solicit your approval or compensate you in any way prior to using any such photographs or videos.
