Alberta Ballet is proud to share our art with the communities where we live, work and play. With Discover Dance, we are able to share in-theatre ballet experiences with up to 3,600 youth, children and students in Calgary and Edmonton during the 2017/18 season. This program is made possible by Enbridge.

What is Discover Dance?

Discover Dance is an opportunity for students to learn and develop through an in-theatre ballet experience. This program is focused on creating opportunities for youth to come together and engage in local arts. Through this program, students are given a glimpse of the creative process behind staging a live ballet, as well as a closer look at the associated production’s story and the meaning behind the movements.

Who is it for?

Throughout the 2017-2018 season, deserving students in Calgary and Edmonton will be invited to the Jubilee Auditoria for special presentations of The Nutcracker, Cinderella, and All of Us. Students will watch an in-theatre presentation of Alberta Ballet dancers taking class on-stage, engage in a Q&A period with Alberta Ballet Artistic Staff and watch an in-costume rehearsal of the current production.

The Discover Dance program for The Nutcracker and Cinderella reach students in grades 2 through 6. For the Discover Dance program of All of Us, an older audience - students in grades 10 through 12 - will be invited.

What we heard after Discover Dance at The Nutcracker

“Thank you for the opportunity to watch the behind-the-scenes of The Nutcracker – you did an amazing job with the whole experience!” – Heidi F., Grant MacEwan Elementary

“The Q&A period was great for the students to learn more about the training and practice necessary to become a ballerina. Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity. Without it, many of our students would not be able to experience something such as this.” – Sara B., Mee-Yah-Noh School

“It was such an amazing opportunity that these kids will not soon forget and they may never have the opportunity to go to a ballet again.” – Tammy A., Keeler School
