This Ballet Life Podcast is Here!

In 2014, Alex Gibson was just shy of her fourth season with Alberta Ballet when she found herself centre stage and alone, rising from the mist at the Jubilee Auditorium in front of hundreds of people. For the next 40 minutes, Alex danced the role of Myrtha in that season’s production of Giselle.

It was her first solo work of her career– a role she dedicated herself to rehearsing only weeks earlier, having been cast originally as an understudy alongside four other female dancers.

Alex’s place in the company had forever shifted after that performance.

How dancers progress through their careers can be a big leap or a gradual process. The choice to be a ballet dancer for a living is the first step, and its one that comes with a lifetime of commitment.

In This Ballet Life, dancers share their most impactful stories about their careers. Through the podcast, audiences access a window into the elusive life of a professional dancer: the triumphs, the ambitions, the determination and the comradery.
