Dance training helps children develop poise, self-discipline and musicality, and the teachers of Alberta Ballet Classes further encourage teamwork skills and confidence and work to foster a safe nurturing environment that celebrates the joy of dance.

Alberta Ballet is proud to feature live music as part of our training. With a talented pianist in each ballet class, our teacher can focus on engaging the class from start to finish, without ever skipping a beat.

Full descriptions for our program streams (Beginner, Experienced and Syllabus) are outlined below the schedule.

Children's Ballet Class Descriptions

Children's Beginner Ballet (Full Year)

No experience is required to join our Beginner Program.

Beginner Ballet concentrates on the development of ballet technique, music appreciation and artistic exploration – all in a relaxed, enjoyable and accessible environment for the recreational dancer.

Beginner Ballet students attend two ballet classes each week.

A nonrefundable production fee for the Year End Performance is included in full-year registrations. Participation in the Year End Performance is optional but strongly recommended. This fee includes wardrobe, theatre rental, videographer and other costs associated with the Year End Performance in the Jubilee Auditorium.

About the Contemporary Class (Level 3 and higher): Once students advance to Level 3, a weekly contemporary class is added to their training. Contemporary class complements ballet with the exploration of different movement styles.

Students will learn to use their body to explore movement styles and patterns that challenge their physicality and artistry, gaining a deeper understanding of how to become versatile performers.

Children's Beginner Ballet (Partial Year)

For families who would prefer a partial year program, we offer a fall intake (Sept. – January) and a winter intake (February - June)

The schedule above includes fall sessionals. Winter sessionals will open for registration in November 2023.
