Class Descriptions

Teen Beginner Program (Full Year & Sessional)

Opportunities to experience dance for young adults aged 12- 17.

Designed for dancers aged 12-17 who are interested in exploring dance, no experience is required to join our Beginner Program. Beginner Ballet will concentrate on the development of ballet technique, and music and artistic exploration and appreciation – all in a relaxed, enjoyable and accessible environment for the beginner dancer.

In our Beginner Program, students will attend classes 2 times per week. Their weekly program consists of 2 ballet classes and a contemporary class. Whether your child is new to dance or looking to get back into the studio after some time away, our Beginner Program allows them to explore movement and music while introducing the fundamentals of dance.

Dance allows students to develop poise, self-discipline, musicality, improve teamwork skills and build confidence in a safe and nurturing environment. This program is also a great complement to students who participate in other activities or sports looking to enhance their posture, balance and flexibility. Live music accompanies all ballet classes in this program.

A production fee is included in your registration and is nonrefundable. Participation in the Year End Performance is optional but strongly recommended. This fee includes all wardrobe and costume charges, theatre rental fees, videographer, and any other costs associated with the Year End Performance

Teen Beginner Program (Sessional)

Teen Experienced Program

Designed for dancers ages 12-17, our Experienced Program offers students an engaging program of dance study exploring more in-depth training of ballet and contemporary dance. Students in the Experienced Program attend 2 ballet classes and 1 contemporary class per week.

The Experienced Program is taught by our dedicated and qualified faculty and follows the Alberta Ballet School curriculum that is proven to be highly effective in the development of safe and artistically skilled dancers. Students continue to develop the fundamentals of ballet and dance technique while exploring the joy of movement and developing musical and artistic appreciation. Students in the Experienced Program have the option to add an additional Syllabus Ballet class where they will focus on learning the syllabus and material required to participate in an examination in the Cecchetti or RAD method. Students are not required to take the exam and can add this class to their program as a great way to enhance their program and training.

Dancers in the Experienced Program will gain confidence and self-discipline in a warm, welcoming environment that fosters a lifelong love of dance, music and the arts. Previous dance experience may be required for some levels of the Experienced Program, we encourage interested students to contact us to ensure we can find the level and program that will best suit your needs.

*Students registered in this program may be eligible to audition to perform in Alberta Ballet’s Nutcracker and other productions containing children's casts.

A production fee is included in your registration and is nonrefundable. Participation in the Year End Performance is optional but strongly recommended. This fee includes all wardrobe and costume charges, theatre rental fees, videographer and photographer, and any other costs associated with the Year End Performance
