Few ballets command the stage with the power and elegance of Swan Lake. The sweeping choreography of the corps de ballet, the emotional depth of Odette and Siegfried’s love story, and the tension of the Black Swan’s deception make it one of the most captivating works in the classical repertoire. Alberta Ballet’s production follows the beloved Petipa/Ivanov tradition while embracing the bold vision of Benjamin Pech, former étoile of the Paris Opera Ballet. Pech heightens the drama by reimagining Benno—Siegfried’s closest friend—as the true villain, deepening the prince’s turmoil and reshaping the ballet’s tragic conclusion.
The role of Prince Siegfried will be performed by internationally renowned artist Paul Marque, Étoile of the Paris Opera Ballet, whom Alberta Ballet is honoured to welcome alongside Principal Dancer Luna Sasaki as Odette/Odile. One of the most celebrated ballet artists of his generation, he appears for two performances only on the evenings of March 13 and March 14. Learn more about Paul Marque in his biography.
On most dates, Tchaikovsky’s sweeping score is performed live by the Calgary Philarmonic Orchestra and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, surrounding audiences with the full power of the orchestra and amplifying the emotional impact of the choreography. The combination of Pech’s storytelling and Alberta Ballet’s artistry makes this Swan Lake an unmissable event.
With evocative design and powerful performances, this production offers a compelling take on a timeless masterpiece. Experience Swan Lake—a story of love, deception, and destiny—brought vividly to life on stage.
Please note: The Friday March 20 and Saturday March 21 performances will be presented with recorded music. As a result, ticket prices for these performances do not include the live orchestra fee applied to performances featuring a live orchestra.
